Google is set to offer students across Pakistan a free one-year subscription to its Gemini AI service, the company’s Vice President Wilson White announced on Tuesday.
Speaking at an event marking Google’s establishment of its first local office in Pakistan, White said the company would provide the subscription to Pakistani students at no cost.
He said the formal announcement regarding the initiative was expected later this week.
White also said Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s ambition to transform Pakistan into a $30 billion IT export hub was aligned with Google’s objectives for the country.
According to the Google executive, the company has contributed to more than Rs3.9 trillion in economic activity for local businesses and households in Pakistan over the past decade.
He added that Google’s ecosystem had supported more than 960,000 jobs in the country during the same period.
White hinted at further expansion of the company’s activities in Pakistan, saying the latest developments marked only the beginning of Google’s plans for the country.
Following the event, Federal Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication Shaza Fatima Khawaja welcomed Google’s arrival in Pakistan in a post on social media platform X.
The free Gemini subscription is expected to give Pakistani students access to Google’s AI-powered tools for learning, research and other educational purposes once the initiative is formally launched.
